WLAN Dry County

WLAN Dry County

Every place I checked in Holland they had a charge on the WLAN. That's why I'm clearing out a backlog of pictures now. My hotel in Den Bosch wanted 6€/h, which I told them was ridiculous and went on to check my mail on my phone. The KPN run networks here and there were the same. Airports have naturally long been out of bounds for free surfing, so I spent my couple of hours at Stockholm Arlanda doing some actual work on a friday night.

Only card operated ones on dutch stations, apparently. Tough luck if you're not carrying one. Not the best of user interface either, with two different screens that don't change language in sync, and separate buttons for each screen.

That's why I was in Holland.

Lot's of odd and interesting material samples, of which some will join our growing material library at work.

Here Earl Briggs of Frank Gehry Architects explains how they make strangely shaped houses for clients with too much money.

6:40 takeoff to Amsterdam via Copenhagen last wednesday. SAS check-in busted my hand baggage for 2 kg overweight, and their flight attendant's aprons still look like bullet proof vests, but they moved me both ways somewhat on schedule and that's what counts.

The happy sound of steel against concrete is again filling my apartment and keeping the neighbours aware that I'm home.

A bit more stuff than expected came off the walls as I tore down the old fibreglass wallpaper, so I'll be needing more of that nice heavy duty plaster in the near future.

For a sheet metal laser. Always good to have a big red panic button handy. Many products would be better with one.

But how usable? Hard to get appropriate pressure on the screw head.

Many of the heavy duty wokstations were very solidly covered, hiding the hard, dirty work happening inside. Looking as more like lab equipment, actually. This one's a metal milling machine, if I remember correctly.

Spent the afternoon at the Finntec08 fair watching heavy machines do odd things and picking up info on manufacturers and new materials. This robot was such a smooth mover, I gave it a soundtrack.

Valerie, your friend is not the only one with a colour coded bookshelf. Then again, it's hard to avoid it with 10+ years worth of National Geographic Magazines.

Emptying the living room so I can start pulling down stuff from the ceiling and walls there in earnest.

Plus for old jute coffee bags laminated into the tables.
