The reason my National Geographic's were on the floor: Paneling up the back of my bookshelf, and rearranging it a bit to keep busy on my day off.
My National Geographic family photo. Complete collection from 1977 to 1987, plus lot's of back issues.
...When I can do a chiken wok with tomato and honey sauce at home.
The only downside is I have to wash up afterwards.
Stopped by Lasipalatsi for an espresso and a quick bite after work. It took serious willpower not to start nibbling at this candy studded gingerbread house I was sitting next to.
I noticed this sign in a small park on my way home. Closer inspection revealed that it's a test site for a genetically modified orange tree (inside a protective shroud at right). If this one succeeds orange trees will be planted in Helsinki parks starting 2010.
Welcome to the tropics.
The place we'll invade later tonight. Our task was to set out all tables, benches and chairs.
Teemu is lying down on the job.
On the way to Suomenlinna to set up the space for Tua's and Otto's wedding dinner. Got to the ferry a bit early, and got to see the big Sweden boats arrive in port.
All I remember about this espresso is that my legs burned after skiing knee deep powder, that the sun was warm, and that I really didn't want to leave for the airport.
Tignes rocked last Sunday!
Our host at Le Chalet du Rassel showing how it's done in Tignes.
My Teles and some fresh French snow. Good combination.
Checking, rechecking and double checking.
The web tells me skiing will be possible, and that means a lot of gear. I was regarding the packing a success, until I realized I need to fit the laptop in there as well. brute force next.
Dynamo hadn't changed much in the five years since I last visited it. A novelty was that they cut the electricity for a few minutes at one point during the night, though. No big deal, as they warned about it before.
Took a brief trip to Turku in the weekend. First time for me to see these fun milk packs that come with the coffee on the train. (Teemu got it, I drink my coffee black).
Checked through Ossi's portfolio after a longish break, and came across a image I knew I had seen before. Now I know where: On billboards! Way to go Ossi!
The traditional Stockmann Christmas Window has gone all trendy neo-baroque this year.
How to make unintuitive design: Make a tap look as if it was manual, but actually you put sensors underneath so it's hands free. Then have the head work as temperature adjustment, so it isn't that hands free after all. And you need to put a big sticker next to it to tell people how it works.
Where is this beauty of usability? In the University of Industrial Arts, Helsinki, of all places.
Pepsi found a way to get back at the still ongoing Coke Zero launch.
This gang had invaded the bus stop I was going to use, so I had to walk further to a tram stop and miss the tram with a few seconds. Thank's guys.
Even with the slight wind today, those kites got serious lift. The guy at the end of the rope (who probably wasn't that experienced) had problems keeping his feet on the ground.
Hietsu beach was a training ground for kitesurfers today. Or maybe kiteboarders or -skiers. It'll be fun to see if I can catch them jetting across the ice sometime this winter.
The safe old orange experience of the Helsinki Metro has turned white courtesy of the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
Stepping out on a path of no return: The quest for a perfect espresso is now carried out at home as well.
If I was as cute as this dog, I would probably get away with sleeping at my workstation too.
An oak sheet went on top of the lowered shelf section, and suddenly I had a new table. Amazing.
Time to chill with a beer and admire my handiwork.
Today it was time to get out the more serious tools and transform a tall shelf element into a low and wide one.
Dissasemble a shelf set that goes along the wall and reassemble it at a straight angle. What could be more fun on a monday night.
If these were mountain bike parts they would be called Custom Bent Supports, or Ruffneck Angles, but since they are just some L-braces I molested to keep my shelf/spatial divider in place they will remain nameless.
SkiExpo, the event where all the nice, shiny and expensive gear is brought out for the winter.
Booths which were designed as home interiors were definately a trend this year. Last year there was one, now closer to ten. Some snowboard company had set up a dinner table for their boards.
Putting together my lovely Danish futon bed by Innovation, which finally arrived. Big thumbs up for supplying an excellent hex key as well.
I forgot to check in which row the stuff I wanted was.
