Satsuki's Hair Has Grown!
Satsuki's Hair Has Grown!
Originally uploaded by Rollofunk.
Finally got face to face with one of the posters for Tonari no Totoro which are around town, and confirmed a hunch I've had for some time now: They've redrawn Satsuki's hair for this new version! Is this some evil Disney plot or what? totally unnecessary if you ask me, and makes me wonder what else they've changed in this great film?
Here's an example of the original hairstyle from IMDB. Too boyish for the re-release?

Orange Tree

I noticed this sign in a small park on my way home. Closer inspection revealed that it's a test site for a genetically modified orange tree (inside a protective shroud at right). If this one succeeds orange trees will be planted in Helsinki parks starting 2010.

Bar Dynamo, Turku
Originally uploaded by Rollofunk.
Dynamo hadn't changed much in the five years since I last visited it. A novelty was that they cut the electricity for a few minutes at one point during the night, though. No big deal, as they warned about it before.

How to make unintuitive design: Make a tap look as if it was manual, but actually you put sensors underneath so it's hands free. Then have the head work as temperature adjustment, so it isn't that hands free after all. And you need to put a big sticker next to it to tell people how it works.
Where is this beauty of usability? In the University of Industrial Arts, Helsinki, of all places.
