I'm out of here. Off to work and then to the airport. See you next year!

Neat
Found a way to check seating on my flight at the Finnair page.

The Joy of Giving
Decided to give myself a pre-christmas present, so that I can give the walls here a proper smoothing before I start painting and putting up wallpaper.
On a side note, my picture from the Pecha Kucha night during Design Week got published in the Schmap City Guide.

Icebreaker Mailboxes
By the Icebreaker pier at Katajannokka. Each ship has it's own mailbox presumably tuned by the crew.

Home 2.0 Improvement
Been doing some archeology in my bedroom walls, and came up with the following:
-One wall is fibreboard.
-It's easy to make holes under the abovementioned.
-The rest of the walls have two layers of fibreglass wallpaper. Thank's a bunch.
-It's going to be more work than expected.
Luckily the living room is easier because of shoddy work done by the previous owner

Plenty of Fine Print
Got talked into another milage point card at work (not that I'll be gettin enough points to make any difference, but anyway). The terms and conditions paper defy everything I thought possible with printers. Must be font size 2 or something.

Chocolate Testing, Stockholm
A fairly unproductive meeting day in Stockholm turned way positive after we were scooped off the street to a market research company for blind testing various new chocolates for a major Swedish brand.

Commuting Issue
Most trains are incompatible with take-away coffee cups. If I want to read during my 17 minute ride I need to put the cup somewhere, but currently only the 08:33 is a new train with wide enough window ledges.

They're Moving
This is actually starting to get interesting. The dynamic chair duo had managed to migrate down to the bottom floor during the last 24 hours. Where next?

The Errant Chairs
When I moved in these two were hiding up by the attic doors. After being moved around enough there I guess they felt that the third floor is more laid back, so now they've parked there. Let's see where they'll go next.

Freak Weather Day
A day of sunshine in the middle of all the cold and rain was well spent on a day hike in the Evo forests outside Hämeenlinna. Tearing down old wallpapers was left for the future.

Interior Design (preliminary)
First things first. Probably not much of interest in those boxes, anyway, so why unpack.

Action
Reading at cafe's is so 2006. Waynes Coffee in Kaisaniemi had installed PSP's at some tables. Great if you have boring company, or if the company is turning up late.

Social Skis?
Just a pair of old Salomons which were used to display bindings in a Myyrmäki sports store.

Casing
A brief glimpse into DigiExpo. I guess there could have been lot's to get exited about, but small gadgets are harder to spot in a crowd compared to rows of fat skis.
The Olympus stand had waterproof casings which were almost as cool as the cameras they are made for. Looking seriously over-engineered and rugged.

SkiExpo 2007
SkiExpo's turning more and more into a sales event for retailers. Especially as I have all the gear I need pretty much sorted there wasn't much to catch my interest. Spent a lot of time hanging out at the Elämysmatkat stand (which I also had the honour to design this year), catching up with all the familiar freeskiing faces that converge there.
iPod Touch
My last day at Mozo, yesterday, and got my hands on Petes new iPod Touch.
Yes, it's gorgeous design, but all in all not that practical. All surfaces gather fingerprint smudges at a serious rate, and the UI isn't suitable for all purposes, like writing for example. It can do lot's of things, but it also definately is a device prioritizing cool over functionality. So, I'll stick to my Creative for now, and no need to think about the iPhone, addicted as I am to mobile e-mail.

Empty
Yesterday.
This was pretty much as when I started out. Just one year in between. Now it's just waiting for the keys to the new place, but I guess the new job starting on monday will keep me busy in the meantime.

In a way it is comforting to know that a big majority of my earthly posessions still fit into one picture.

Boxes Are Back
Moving out of here next week, getting the keys to the new place by the 15th and changing jobs in between.
In other words: Keeping busy.

Flat Box Fun
How many Industrial Designers does it take to assemble an Ikea cupboard?
Answer: Three, because we were coming up with much more important things to do all the time.

The Truth
Sometimes you just have to know how to laugh at yourself and your profession. Came across a brilliant presentation at the CScout Japan blog. Never heard about this Dan Saffer guy before, but he's got it pretty much figured out:

Sofia's Chair
Spent today consulting a client's workshop at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. My old classmate Sofia's design chair happened to be in the 3rd floor lobby.
Cool Stuff
Every builders dream: CD -player, radio, current converters and power tool battery chargers all suspended inside a protective aluminium frame. Can it get any better?
Hot Stuff
Some picks from the Subcontracting fair in Tampere, yesterday.
The "in" colour for heavy duty chain fittings this year is definately hot pink. Just says yes to me.
Funny to see that some hardcore workshops are actually putting their credibility in the engineering world on the line by trying to be trendy and fresh.

University of Lapland
Slightly spooky, quite imposing and way cool. Nice to see they keep up the good work there. The products inside weren't too bad either.
Habitare 2007
It's that time of the year again. This year had added interest since I actually get to start turning 28 square meters of Kruununhaka lnto a home after moving in mid november.

Pecha Kucha, Helsinki
Third Pecha Kucha night held in Helsinki as part of the Design Week programme.
Interesting as a format, but most performers lacked the on-stage experience and interesting contents I was hoping for. Would be nice to experience with less famous names on stage sometime.

The New Look
I guess this was the first major public outing for the new Koskenkorva Vodka design. And they let me do some mixing behind the bar. Try it if you dare:
4cl Koskenkorva Blueberry
Schweppes Bitter Lemon
Dash of Blue Curacao
Blueberries
Mix together in a highball glass filled with ice.

FinnBar 2007
Basically, a trade fair concentrating on alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink ingredients. With ample taste tests. Good thing I visited after a big lunch at Sävel.
Went there just to look at display solutions and sniff future bar trends, of course...
Fruity versions of familiar poisons seems to be the new thing. Absolut brought out Pear flavour, and hung them from a tree.

Separated at Birth?
Or just long lost cousins? The E61i and my Krups coffee and espresso maker have some shape and colouring issues in common.
Reason For Feeling Old
When I was young a floppy disk was a big piece of plastic, and held about 1.4Mb. Now, that's 1Gb between my fingers, ready to go into my phone (of course there weren't that many mobile phones around back then either).
Big Box, Big Phone
After trying out quite a few models I finally got around upgrading to a Nokia E61i. A big and sturdy chunk of phone, which is still slim enough to go in the pocket of my jeans. Main reason for getting it was the surprisingly good QWERTY keyboard, since I do much more writing than talking these days. Plus the WLAN, which might lead me to make even less well thought out blog entries than now.
