Spent today consulting a client's workshop at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. My old classmate Sofia's design chair happened to be in the 3rd floor lobby.

The "in" colour for heavy duty chain fittings this year is definately hot pink. Just says yes to me.
Funny to see that some hardcore workshops are actually putting their credibility in the engineering world on the line by trying to be trendy and fresh.

Pecha Kucha, Helsinki
Third Pecha Kucha night held in Helsinki as part of the Design Week programme.
Interesting as a format, but most performers lacked the on-stage experience and interesting contents I was hoping for. Would be nice to experience with less famous names on stage sometime.

The New Look
I guess this was the first major public outing for the new Koskenkorva Vodka design. And they let me do some mixing behind the bar. Try it if you dare:

Basically, a trade fair concentrating on alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink ingredients. With ample taste tests. Good thing I visited after a big lunch at Sävel.
Went there just to look at display solutions and sniff future bar trends, of course...
Fruity versions of familiar poisons seems to be the new thing. Absolut brought out Pear flavour, and hung them from a tree.

Reason For Feeling Old
When I was young a floppy disk was a big piece of plastic, and held about 1.4Mb. Now, that's 1Gb between my fingers, ready to go into my phone (of course there weren't that many mobile phones around back then either).
Big Box, Big Phone
After trying out quite a few models I finally got around upgrading to a Nokia E61i. A big and sturdy chunk of phone, which is still slim enough to go in the pocket of my jeans. Main reason for getting it was the surprisingly good QWERTY keyboard, since I do much more writing than talking these days. Plus the WLAN, which might lead me to make even less well thought out blog entries than now.

Restaurant Nuevo
The Espresso part is not forgotten. I have just been seriously lazy and spent my time on familiar cafes, so there hasn't been much to write about in this department.
Tonight i touched down in Nuevo for some food and wine with Robert, and afterwards we were served one of the best espressos in a long time. Perfectly balanced, so they start of with a bitter feeling, which turns smooth just before you start grimacing. Got two pieces of (mint) chocolate pre cup as well.
Nuevo is more of a food place, but I'm sure they'll serve espressos at the bar if you ask nicely. Also not a bad idea to work up the appetite with a few Tapas first.
