Is it really that cool to go around tagging your mobile phone's brand?
These sitbikes seem to have become a small trend this summer. There are more an more around.
Cool idea. Had the name of the occupant and presumably the birth date. However, judging by the way these things are driven and parked I'd say it's more important that the driver (mom or dad) gets a driving licence instead of a licence plate.
Public spaces go custom.
This park bench made life comfortable at my bus stop by the railway station for a good while, but now those nasty people travelling to Vantaa have taken it to their stop. I'm planning to gather a strike team and reclaim it some dark night.
Long time since I posted about espresso. The reason isn't that I haven't been drinking them, I've just been lazy and gone to previously visited cafes.
The Esplanadi branch of Cafe Carusel was a new one though, and a quite pleasant experience too. The espresso is smooth almost to the point of being unnoticeable, but finishes off with a nice bitterness. Unfortunately there was no chocolate along with it. Otherwise this would easily have ranked high up on my list. As for the place itself, it was pretty quiet, but then again it was a tuesday evening. Not that many magazines to read, but the music deserves a special mention. Very good tunes, but not obtrusive in any way.
I might go there again.
@Kaapelitehdas.
Design stores and individuals were selling stuff at discount prices. Not much of interest, though. A legendary phrase of the future was coined here: "Design is boring".
Compare this to the picture of Heikki's apartment taken earlier this week.
Handy to keep with you, and always ready to listen to your problems.
Hyped in the media, but it works. Covers all the scaffolds and makes walking through the construction site a much lighter experience.
No, unfortunately just brown sugar, but there's nothing on the package to indicate that.
Taking an evening walk under the highway to Lahti.
Big truck, with a furry seal baby, and some dolphins. Awww cute...
The local supermarket has deployed this kind of hybrid between a basket and a shopping trolley. A bit weird at first, I ended up carrying it around, but I'm sure elderly people will appreciate the function of dragging it along.
My bike between about 1995-1998. Now Kristian finally brought it back to Helsinki.
Still looking good.
Ad for the national lottery. They must have had fun designing it.
The table's too far away, so ended up keeping the laptop in my lap after all. The power socket by the table was nice, though.
Away for the weekend again. This time to Turku, visiting Jani and Anni in their nice new apartment.
Went to the bank to pick up my new credit card, and was faced with these laminated cardboard examples of personalising the card with your own pictures. Good and concrete way to show how it could look.
When will we see the hit series "Pimp My Plastic"?
A new piece of public art had appeared in the neighbourhood while I was away. Now we have huge yellow lions occupying a square.
In the Nokia Store.
Nice of you to drop by Helsinki, Valérie.
The stage in the Esplanade Park has become a showroom.
At about 1000m, after climbing over Juoksvattnjunni. After this it was easy cruising.
Some pictures from the hike as well. The route went roughly like this: Kilpisjärvi-Koltaluotka-Bárrás-Isdalen-Juoksvanntjunni-Pältsastugan-Koltaluotka-Kilpisjärvi. Six nights, about 80 km and highest point around 1430m.
Had some time for a Rovaniemi Sightseeing too. The brand spankingly new faculty building was a must see.
This one sucked. The door has nothing to hold it open, so it's happily swinging along with the train. Brushing teeth or washing your face becomes an acrobatic exercise, and don't even think about shaving.
Good stuff in the new cabin: A personal console with storage space, 220V socket, light, alarm clock and radio (which didn't have any programme on).
Mikko got caught in the frame for artistic purposes.
Spent one week hiking near Kilpisjärvi with Mikko and Teemu. On the way north we got the familiar, old sleeper cars in the train, but coming back was a new experience in many ways:
The new sleeper cars have cabins on two floors. Me and Mikko ended up in the most cramped one at the end of the car. They have two beds, compared to three in the old ones, which is nice. No more snoring lowest bunk strangers (we don't snore at all, of course). In general the new ones are an improvement: Quieter, longer beds, better equipped. Some poorly thought out things, though, and less storage space compared to the old ones.
Well, I sould my soul and upgraded my Flickr account. Hope things will run smoothly from now on. Managed to create quite a backlog in my blogging, so trying to sift through the archives of the last weeks here.
This yellow beauty was lying around on a shelf at work. too bad there wasn't any charger around that would fit it.
