Odd But Nice

Well, I'm moving shortly. Tomorrow, to be more precise. All the fuss might create a break in blogging, or then it might not. We'll see.
The location is in central Helsinki. Anything more precise is given on a need-to-know basis, but for all the detectives out there, the stairwell looks like this.
A place with a nice Greek/ Mediteranean atmosphere, Cafe Delicato serves excellent value for the money. For 2 euros you get a quality espresso served to the table. I there is some complaint, it is the Fazer Geisha chocolate, which isn't the baest of choices, but all in all an excellent place with an international feel.
They have a good selection of coffees and foodstuffs on sale as well.
The hit of Matti's pre-birthday party. Pick and mix to create your preferred pizza.
Mikko doing on-site testing of Elias' playpen. A fascinating amount of activities and stimulating objects packed into such a small space.
Babies are popping up right and left, so it's time to get familiar with the toy selections. The furry fish were pretty weird.
Tucked away on the second floor of the Akateeminen bookstore and pretty much in the shape Alvar Aalto intended it to be, Cafe Aalto gives a high end coffee experience with table service as a standard.
The espresso is decent, but slightly on the mild side for my taste. The 2.70 euro price is kind of understandable because of the table service, but at that price I don't think it would ruin them to include a chocolate.
A definitive bonus with this place is that you can pick up some book in the bookstore and sit down to read it over a coffee without anyone really noticing.
Displaying "Trevlig kväll", "have a nice evening" in Swedish in the windshield.
Moving into a new apartment soon makes me much more observant of basically trivial interior elements. But I still like that radio a lot.
The tunnel at Kaisaniemi metro station, which was bleak and boring for years, has been visited by some cavemen.
Big reorganisation day at the Mozo office, with goodies such as 20" flatscreens. Me likes.
Classic Cafe Ekberg, which has been run by the Ekberg family since 1852, has a nice old-school atmosphere. The clientele consisted of business people, tourists, and little old ladies who probably have been going there since the 1920's. Good thing I was wering a half decent shirt, at least.
The place has table service, but still charges only 2.50 for an espresso. Fairly reasonable. It lacks the chocolate, though. What's with these places? However, the drink is first rate, and comes in a very well designed cup. The ear actually has space for your finger, which can't be said about many espresso cups.
All in all a place to enjoy the atmosphere in, but not if you're in a hurry.
Visited one of our subcontractors today, who has some serious power tools: Laser cutters worth 600000 euros (that screen is as close as you want to get to one), and there are three of them. Got to work hard on supplying them with designs of sheet metal, I guess.
Tua and Otto had a party last night. These sweet little things were eaten for dessert.
First, a word of warning to all who plan on updating their phone software: I did just that to my 6680, and the phone worked fine, but was unrecogniseable to my computer afterwards. Turned out I had to download and install the newest version of the Nokia PC Suite too, to get them talking again. Why didn't anybody tell me?
Anyway, autumn means sunset comes earlier. Caught me by surprise a few times now. The radar is on the Helsinki University campus nearby.
Certainly stands out on the shiny facade of Kamppi shopping centre. The white t-shirts had some text, one letter each, but you had to look close to read it.
As for apartment hunting, I might just have found what I was looking for today, but we'll see.
My quest for a new nest has entered it's second day. So far the reviewed options have ranged from old and worn to small and overpriced.
In other words, still looking.
Speaking of Suunto, they've got an exhibition running at the Patents and Registry Office downtown. Too bad it's just open on weekdays between 8-16, so I won't be visiting.
Helsinki sucks!
Well, not in the negative sense, but rather like sucking in people. Heikki moved here a few weeks back, and now Teemu is coming. He's got a UI design job at Suunto. Big congratulations!
The picture does not show Teemu's apartment, but his basement, which was pretty funky.
Seems like a strange time of the year to make a big promotion for running and all the products related to that, but it's what they were doing in Kamppi today.
I'm more eager for SkiExpo, which starts in a month.
We got this nice massage chair to try out at the Mozo office. Hope we'll be able to keep it.
It's not as good as being massaged by a real human, of course, but still feels nice in between sitting at the computer. And I can take my tablet PC along and sketch on it while getting a massage. Talk about efficiency.
This girl a few seats in front of me spent the entire bus ride drawing funny faces, birds, fish and other stuff on (presumably) her own business cards. Nice touch, but a lot of work.
The cracks made it much more interesting. Not being perfect is sometimes a positive thing.
Finally a proper thunderstorm that got the cars swimming.
And made artistic pictures like this possible too...
