This classic compass design came up in a discussion recently, and prompted me to dig out my grandfathers old wartime model. Dated to 1943 and still working perfectly, as it should with that bullet stopping (allegedly) build. Hadn't really studied it closely before, but there are in fact some nice details, like the pencil groove on the ring for more accurately visualising lines on a map. Maybe I'll take this out on a real hike sometime.
