My new Ortileb Snap worked just as well as I hoped. Attached snugly to the chest belt on the backpack, where it's in the perfect position for getting the camera out quickly while still keeping the gear waterproof. Also took the wight off when having the camera strap around my neck(not that the GF1 is heavy, but still).
